Has Anyone Heard from Arsenius?

Just wanting to do a morale and welfare check on a fellow blogger. I know a few of you followed Arsenius the Hermit. I've been wondering when he would start posting again, but when I clicked on the link for his blog the other day, I found that the whole blog had been removed. I tried to send an email thru his Blogger ID but I didn't hear back. Does anyone keep in contact with him? I'd just like to know whether he's doing okay or not. Thank you.

  1. Checking...

    User Profile still accessible: http://www.blogger.com/profile/08849281122788247240

    Blog gone: http://ajournalofselfsufficiency.blogspot.com

His hyperlinked blogger comments go to something I've never seen: http://xn--aprsmoiledluge-xjbx4196k/

The IP Address of his blog (209.85.147.132) is still live (I'm sure the IP is not in his house, it is owned by Google) and has 3,184 websites LIVE right now: http://www.statscrop.com/websites/hosted-at-same-ip/209.85.147.132/# . I'm just showing that the server didn't get taken offline (plus I traced the IP to Mountain View, CA).

There is NO history of him on the all-knowing WayBack Machine: http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://ajournalofselfsufficiency.blogspot.com

Oct 12 is the last blog comment I see: http://www.knightsanddreams.com/blog/2011/because-ive-been-accused/

Ah, he had declared a break from the Internet in November: http://warlocksundance.blogspot.com/2011/11/missing-friend.html#comment-form

    1. Wow OJD, you're pretty thorough ;) I think I picked up some good how-to info there.

  2. People get worn out and just drop out. They go back to doing all those things they used to do before they were blogging in the first place. Likely some people are switching to facebook to keep up with people - but the privacy issues are rather severe.

    1. You're probably right, Russell. I just thought it odd that the blog totally disappeared, but then, that could just be for OpSec reasons.

  3. If you were previously a follower of his, you can still access the body of his posts (not the comments) by going to google.com/reader

some of his posts are still available with the comments via the cached version online by searching his blog address. But it's easier to just use google reader.

I've been contacted by several people, since he turned his blog off, asking if I've heard from him. I haven't. I've sent two emails, several months apart, and I get no response.
